Childcare Funds:

  • SAAS CHILDCARE FUND
  • For full time undergraduate (inc. PGDE) students who are SAAS funded and in receipt of their maximum student loan. Also available to students from the rest of the UK who are in receipt of their maximum student loan.

    Not available to Nursing/Midwifery students

  • UWS CHILDCARE FUND
  • For Nursing/Midwifery, EU, International and Research students

UWS CHILDCARE FUNDS:

The Trimester 1 intake application cycle has now closed as of 7th October 2011. The Trimester 2 intake application form will be available from early December 2011.

Who can apply?

This is a fund created by the University to provide some financial support for childcare coststo students who cannot claim this through the SAAS Childcare Funds. This is primarily EU, International, Nursing/Midwifery and Research students.

full-time UNDERGRADUATE discretionary funds:

Who can apply?

    For full time undergraduate (inc. PGDE) students who are SAAS funded and in receipt of their maximum student loan. Also available to students from the rest of the UK who are in receipt of their maximum student loan.

    Not available to Nursing/Midwifery students.

    You can apply for support if you have worked out a budget and need additional support each months to make ends meet, or, if you have been managing okay but suffer an unexpected cost that you did not budget for.

Part time Undergraduate Discretionary Funds:

Who can apply?

UK Home Students who are studying on a Part time (20-100 credits) basis and meet the following criteria:

  • Must be in receipt of one of the following:

    Personal Benefits: Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity/Invalidity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Carer's Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Attendance Allowance

    Family Benefits: Working Tax Credit, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit, Income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Income-based Employment and Support Allowance, or

  • Have a weekly income of less than £74, or
  • Be in receipt of the ILA200, or
  • Be in receipt of the Part Time Fee Grant from SAAS (formerly the ILA500 scheme)

Details on how we assess applications to this fund are fund in the procedures document below. This fund may provide a contribution towards the costs of books, travel and childcare.

FULL TIME POSTGRADUATE DISCRETIONARY FUNDS:

The amount of student funding available for postgraduate study is limited. This leaves us in a position whereby the demand on our postgraduate discretionary funds far out weighs the actual funding we have to offer.

In order to manage this funding appropriately, we are unable to offer any advance notice of the level of funding that may be expected from these funds. We advise all prospective postgraduate students to have another source of income that can cover all essential expenditure during your studies.

UK Home Students who are studying a full time postgraduate course.

Part time Postgraduate Discretionary Funds:

The amount of student funding available for postgraduate study is limited. This leaves us in a position whereby the demand on our postgraduate discretionary funds far out weighs the actual funding we have to offer.

We advise all prospective postgraduate students to have another source of income that can cover all essential expenditure during your studies.

Who can apply?

UK Home Students who are studying on a Part time (20-100 credits) basis and meet the following criteria:

  • Must be in receipt of one of the following:

    Personal Benefits: Disability Living Allowance, Incapacity/Invalidity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Carer's Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Attendance Allowance

    Family Benefits: Working Tax Credit, Income Support, Housing Benefit, Pension Credit, Income-based Job Seekers Allowance, Income-based Employment and Support Allowance, or

  • Have a weekly income of less than £74, or
  • Be in receipt of the Part Time Fee Grant from SAAS (formerly the ILA500 scheme), or
  • Be in receipt of tuition fees through the Postgraduate Students’ Allowances Scheme (PSAS)

    The University administers a number of Trust Funds each year. We will update this section regularly to show what Trusts/Scholarships are open and accepting applications.

    John Mather Charitable Trust

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Full time undergraduates studying any discipline in Year 2 (level 8) or above
    • Permanent address must be within the former Strathclyde Region and they should have attended secondary school within the same area
    • Can demonstrate evidence of financial need, and has applied to all other statutory funding available, including the Discretionary Fund

    Argyll and Bute, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and West Dunbartonshire

    What documentation do I need to submit with the application?

    • An academic reference outlining your progress and attendance to date.
    • A copy of your Banner ID card
    • A copy of your SAAS award letter (both sides)
    • Evidence of financial hardship

    When will I hear the outcome?

    We’ll let you know the result of your application by 16th March. A panel will meet to choose the successful applicants and we will inform you either way via your student email account.

    Please note: It is your responsibility to ensure you submit all the evidence requested. There is no further opportunity to submit evidence after the closing date, nor is there a route of appeal.

  • Educational Grants Advisory Service

    If you cant make it onto campus today, then Family Action's online search may be a good place to start if your looking for extra support.

    Family Action, is a long standing charitable organisation that looks to help families and young people with difficulties and financial hardship. UWS is proud to be a member of Family Action's Grant's Advisory Service. Part of their work allows our students to search a number of trusts for additional support.   • SAAS
  • Nurse Aid

    Nurse Aid is a charity that can assist Nurses (including Student Nurses) if they face unforeseen financial hardship. This cannot be applied to solely due to monthly shortfall after receiving bursary payments, this is only for students experiencing unforeseen circumstances that have negatively impacted on their lives.
