UWS CHILDCARE FUNDS
In August 2009 UWS recognised the additional needs of Nursing, Midwifery and International students and opened a new fund to help with costs towards childcare for these students, who previously had no further discretionary funding support .
New students starting a course in January/February 2010 may still apply to the UWS Childcare Fund and more details are found below. Please note the closing date of 26th February for all applications.
Due to high demand there are no longer any childcare funds available from this fund for continuing students who began their course in September 2009 or before until our new financial year on August 1st 2010. Please check back in the Summer for more information prior to any new funding being made available.
It should be noted that any support from any of our childcare funds will be in the form of a contribution towards your childcare costs and is not expected to cover the full cost.
How to apply:
Awards are dependent on students' household income levels and personal circumstances. Priority will be given to registered childcare costs although unregistered costs will be considered.

NOTES FOR FILLING IN THE full time FORM:
- Please read the application form carefully as you fill it in.
- It may take up to four weeks to process an application.
- The Funds are open throughout the year and if your circumstances change, you may apply for a top-up.
- Your application will be refused at our reception desk if you don't have the essential items listed in the application.
- Make sure you complete each relevant section and sign and date Section 4 of the form.
- If a section does not apply- for instance Childcare Costs just leave it blank.
- The Income/Expenditure section is crucial: think about what income you receive each month, i.e student loan, and then work out your monthly expenditure.
- The additional expenditure section is for anything that you pay on a monthly basis not already covered by the form - such as kids swimming or dance classes.
- If you are a final year student, the closing date for applications is late April.
Now Prove It!
It's important that we have evidence to back up your application as this will strengthen your application. This is where most people decide it's too much work ! Don't be tempted to give up now.
Think Logically -most of your income and expenditure will be payable monthly and goes through a direct debit or standing order which is clearly displayed on your bank statement. Where a payment appears on your account, please highlight and write beside the item what it is. We do not need to see individual evidence of every expense you have.
In some instances we will still need to see a photocopy of the original document, the ones we definitely want to see are:
- Lease agreements
- Loan agreements
- Credit card statements
- Childcare costs (use Section 6 of the form provided)
If you have any questions or queries best to sort them out before submitting the form as this will speed up the award process. Contact us or simply drop in to the reception and ask.

You will be asked to provide various details before a list of trust funds is generated based on your information. It's important to remeber that the more information you provide, the more relevant the list of trusts will be to your own circumstances.
There are trusts funds that exist that may relate to your parents, or even grandparents, occupations. Some relate to the area you grew up in or school you attended. Others may relate to the subject you are studying.
Funderfinder is available for students to use in the Student Services reception on all campuses. It is free to use on a first come first served basis, so pop in to you student services today.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further information or assistance.

It should be noted that any support from any of our childcare funds will be in the form of a contribution towards your childcare costs and is not expected to cover the full cost.
Please Note:
Applications may take up to 4 weeks to be processed. This is due to the number of applications we receive. ALL students are asked to avoid enquiring about the progress of their application as this only causes delays.
Students who may experience problems with childcare providers while awaiting the outcome of their award should provide their childcare provider with the contact information for their campus and an adviser will explain our procedures.
Part time students should apply to the fund as early in their studies as possible as we cannot award retrospectively. The end of Trimester dates as publised by the University are considered to be the closing dates for any part time applications.
Full time students are encouraged to apply early in the year, but we will welcome applications at any time of the year as we appreciate how your circumstances may change.
