International Student Support

The Buddy Project

The Buddy Project is open to all students - UK and international - over all four UWS campuses. The Project matches up newly arrived students with established students (who have been studying here for at least one semester) to help the new arrivals settle into their university studies and living in Scotland.

We currently have international students from 59 different countries - for many it may be the first time outside their home country. Our 'home' students may also have come from a different part of Scotland or the UK.

The Project is also open to new staff members arriving to work here from overseas and other parts of the UK.

All Buddy Project participants have to do is:

  • Keep in touch at least for the first semester
  • Meet organisers and other participants by coming along to a daytime social event

So if you are a newly arrived student who would like a Buddy, or an established UWS student who would like volunteer to help as a Buddy for a new student, visit the Buddy Project webpage to apply.

Please note: Feedback suggests that students generally have a positive experience with Buddy Projects such as this and often make life long friendships. However, there is no obligation to continue contact with your buddy and you are free to withdraw from the project at any time.
