  • A thriving research community

Postgraduate Research students work at the forefront of their academic subject and contribute to the advancement of knowledge.

To be a successful researcher, you must be passionate about your subject area, with enthusiasm for research and analysis, and the motivation to manage a personal learning programme. You will have already demonstrated research aptitude in undergraduate or masters-level studies.

Studying for a research degree (MRes, MPhil, PhD, DBA and the taught doctorate DProf) furthers your academic development, increases your employability and career options, whether in an academic or commercial environment

Through training courses, interdisciplinary programmes, seminars and competitions the Graduate School encourages postgraduate researchers to look beyond the boundaries of their chosen discipline and develop skills which can apply to a range of careers.     Our researcher development programme (aligned to the Vitae RDF) offers year round essential research skills training and development opportunities to help students succeed with their research and prepare for their future. We cater for all levels of experience, from new to experienced pgr students, and deliver live and online training.

Research and enterprise activities pervade the work of the Graduate School, and the environment fosters interdisciplinary excellence providing a focus and training ground for world class multi-disciplinary research and dedicated support for our researchers.  We work with global businesses, regional enterprises, local and international HEIs ensuring that UWS graduates have the skills and experience to drive innovation and support the future needs of society, industry and government.
