University of the West of Scotland

Welcome

Welcome to the University

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you as you join us at University of the West of Scotland for the next stage of your studies.

This is a very exciting time in the development of UWS - Scotland's largest modern university - and you will now be part of a community of almost 20,000 students studying across our campuses in Ayr, Dumfries, Hamilton and Paisley. We serve as the local university for over 30% of the Scottish population, and we also continue to raise our international profile with over 1300 students studying with us from our partner institutions across the EU and further afield.

We plan to improve the learning environment across all our locations in the next few years, investing over £250million in teaching and learning, IT provision and campus facilities.

Some of you will have studied with us before, so it's nice to see you back. And for those of you who are new to the University, a warm welcome. I can assure you that UWS staff will be making every effort to ensure that your time with us is enjoyable and rewarding.

The University's Trimester 2 Welcome Programme begins on Monday 25 January 2010 and there is a range of events and activities to help you settle in quickly and get the most from your studies.

Whether you are a new student starting your studies or you are a continuing student, we hope that your time at the University is both rewarding and enjoyable.

Have a happy, productive and successful time with us and I wish you all the very best for the coming year.

Depute Principal
