Welcome & Induction January 2012
Welcome to UWS as you join us for the start of Trimester 2 in January 2012.
The New to UWS section has lots of information and advice to get you started and, as many of you are coming to us from outside the UK, you might find the International section of the public website particularly helpful.
We want every student to get the best possible experience at UWS and, in my role as Dean of Students, I hope that I can play a big part in developing our services which you can then rely on to provide friendly and helpful advice.
One of the improvements we have made over the past year is the creation of Student Enquiry Points at each of our campuses. All the services you might need during your studies have been brought together under a single structure and there is now a ‘Student Link’ enquiry point on each campus to make it easier for you to get information and advice at the time you need it.
Whether it’s about enrolling on your course; getting a part-time job as a student; how to prepare for a graduate job; or advice on funding, careers or personal problems, the Student Link team can help.
You can find the team at:
- Ayr Campus at the Main Reception
- Dumfries Campus at the Student Link Information Point in the Crichton Library (Dumfries & Galloway College Building)
- Hamilton Campus in the Almada Building
- Paisley Campus in the Elles Building opposite QWERTY’s café
Remember, as a UWS student, your views are important and we do listen. Please do not hesitate to provide me with feedback (good feedback is important too), ask questions or give me ideas. You can email me at deanofstudents@uws.ac.uk.
You have made a great start by choosing to study at UWS and I wish you all the very best of luck with your course. But also remember that university life is about more than just study. You'll have a whole range of new opportunities opening up to you and you'll make friends that will last you a lifetime – enjoy the experience.
Very best wishes
Dr Anne McGillivray
Dean of Students
