What we offer
Our pre-registration midwifery programme is 50% work-based learning, where you’ll put theory into practice in a real-life environment. When you are on-campus with us, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities for clinical skills development that will prepare you well for your future career. We offer the following undergraduate programme:

Professional recognition
On completion of the BSc Midwifery programme you’ll be able to register as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
Our Midwifery programme is also accredited by UNICEF as Baby Friendly for education standards for breastfeeding.

Practical experience
As teaching on this programme is 50% work-based learning, you’ll be able to put the theory you learn in the classroom into practice in real-life clinical environments. Placement opportunities will be available with NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, NHS Lanarkshire, NHS Highland, NHS Dumfries & Galloway, and NHS Ayrshire & Arran.

First-class facilities
Our new £110 million Lanarkshire Campus provides midwifery students with excellent learning and teaching environments with facilities and equipment that includes a birthing room with maternal simulator and a birthing pool for simulated water births. Students will also have access to a simulated home environment to enable learning and teaching around home birth and home visits.

The most challenging but rewarding three years. I am proud to say I am a UWS student midwife. This degree has taught me I am capable of amazing things, and what a journey the last three years have been.
