excellence in sport
UWS have developed a reputation for excellence in sport. Our growing portfolio of programmes integrate biological and behavioural approaches to enhance human health and performance. Our exercise and health research provides the underpinning science for our taught programmes while newly developed facilities at the new £110 million Lanarkshire Campus, which opened in 2018, and the Emirates International Arena are equipped to carry out cutting-edge research and deliver state-of-the-art instruction. Our Ayr Campus, which opened in 2011, features a multi-purpose sports hall, which was designed specifically for use as a learning space.
UWS has played a key role as host institution in bringing the prestigious Annual Congress of the European College of Sport Science (ECSS) to Scotland for the first time in 2024. ECSS Glasgow 2024 will be the 27th annual ECSS Congress, bringing together academics and industry representatives from over 70 countries. With its theme of ‘Enhancing Health, Performance and Community Sport’ focussing on three strands of Social Sciences and Humanities, Physiology and Sports Medicine, and Biomechanics and Neuromuscular, the ECSS Glasgow Congress will provide an exciting scientific offer including plenaries, invited sessions and the prestigious Young Investigators Award.Find out more about ECSS 2024
