Allan is an Academic member of staff at senior lecturer level, specialising in Information and Knowledge Management, who worked in the commercial sector for 15 years prior to entering education.
Within the University he has undertaken numerous roles including the development of an Economics and Management Department at the time of our merger with Craigie College of Education which created our Ayr Campus. Indeed, Allan was the first member of non-education staff to arrive and work on the campus to develop non-education programmes. This included the co-authorship of the fully articulated degree level programme, BA Business Administration thought to be the first of its type in the West of Scotland and the pre-cursor for the Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme.
For five years Allan undertook the role of Campus Director at our campus in Dumfries and more recently the Director of our Chartered Management Institute Accreditation Centre, where he actively designed, redesign and delivered those programmes. He has also designed and delivered bespoke CPD training programmes for local and overseas UWS clients, European and International, generating solid income over the years. He co-authored the successful bid for the first BA (Hons) Business Management Graduate Apprenticeship programme in the School of Business and Enterprise.
Currently, he is one of the EIS/ULA local branch officers and officials and sits on the ULA Executive Committee. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and is a full member of the Chartered Management Institute and the British Computer Society. A past full member of the Institute of Information Technology Training, Institute of Administrative Management and the Institute of Sales and Marketing Management.
