Laura has extensive public sector experience in Scotland and elsewhere in the UK. A languages graduate, she worked for several years in higher education management, first at Glasgow University, where she helped develop early ERASMUS exchanges, then as a senior manager at Leeds University, heading up European research and teaching collaboration and developing international recruitment and strategic overseas partnerships.
In 2002 Laura joined the civil service in Scotland where she led teams responsible for higher education learner support policy, including Individual Learning Accounts (ILAs), part-time HE grants and postgraduate student funding. Since 2009 Laura has been Head of Corporate Office at Skills Development Scotland, Scotland’s national skills agency, where her responsibilities include corporate and information governance, Scottish Government liaison and business resilience.
