Students' Union
Our Students' Union are here to represent you, support you, and work with you to improve the student experience at UWS.
Your Students' Union are here to make your UWS experience better by representing you, supporting you, and working with you to improve the student experience at UWS.
All UWS students automatically become members of the Union. As well as hosting an exciting calendar of events year-round and offering the opportunity to get involved with a range of Societies, Your Union helps to improve your time at UWS by ensuring the student voice is heard.
While we are independent of the University we also work in partnership to ensure you get the support and academic experience you need to achieve your goals.
We have lots of different areas of work, to support you every step of the way. These include:
Every year UWS students elect a new team of Student Presidents for the upcoming academic year. These are students just like you, who are paid and work full-time to represent you.
They work to deliver their election promises and sit on the University Court and Senate – the highest decision-making bodies of the University. They are the people who bring the student voice right to the University management team.
The Students’ Union provides a free and impartial advice service to support you. We offer help and support across a range of different areas, and even bring dogs onto campus for you to meet as part of our Paws Against Stress events.
Issues we can help with include: appeals, extenuating circumstances, fitness to practice, plagiarism, disciplinary, emergency hardship, free condoms and re-usable sanitary products, a hate crime reporting service and signposting to other support services / resources.
Just like a workers union – the Students’ Union exists to represent the interests of students at UWS. You might want to consider becoming a course rep to join the team!
As well as being led by four full-time Student Presidents, elected by students for students. They work with elected teams of School Officers, Divisional Reps, and Course Reps who all work together to make UWS even better for students.
The Student Representation team covers all the ways in which students have a voice in the way UWS is run. It includes the work of course and divisional representatives, as well as the work of School Officers and Student Presidents. But representation isn't just for elected representatives - your voice is also heard through surveys, questionnaires, focus groups, and talking to your reps!
Societies and volunteering are great ways for you to make friends and meet new people. They can also help you gain experience and develop some of the skills that you learn from your uni course! We have lots of different societies and volunteering opportunities for you to make the most of while you're at UWS.
Throughout the year a range of events are run by different groups, societies and the Students’ Union. Our spaces are available for students to use and run their own events too.
Your Union is always here for you, so if you don’t know where to go or have any questions you should get in touch.
