Dr Habib Chamoun-Nicolas looks at how to successfully engage Higher Education students in a Cross-Cultural teaching environment in this online lecture on Wednesday 22nd February from 1pm-2.30pm.
This study presents the results of an exploratory study on cross-cultural student engagement that was conducted on respondents from the USA, Spain, and Mexico as well as from other European, Latin American, African, and Asian countries (France, India, China, Italy, Lebanon, Gabon, Colombia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Paraguay, Peru, Thailand, and Vietnam). The authors collected qualitative information from student feedback on two courses: one where students felt strongly engaged and one where they felt weakly engaged.
In this session, Habib will be sharing the preliminary results of the study. The preliminary results of the study suggest the presence of four categories that seem to be essential for student engagement: the emotional intelligence of the teacher (Singh and Jha, 2012), the mastery and access to technology (Bond et al., 2020), the teaching method (Ahlin, 2020), and finally the structuring of teaching (Chamoun-Nicolas et al. 2013).
