Long-standing challenges faced by the social care sector will be under the spotlight at the launch of a series of thought-provoking Inaugural Lectures at University of the West of Scotland (UWS).
Professor Stephen Gibb, from the University’s renowned School of Business and Creative Industries, will draw from extensive, impactful research to provide insight on problems faced by the sector – such as staff recruitment and retention – and examine potential solutions.
He said: “I am delighted to kick-off the UWS Inaugural Lecture series by talking about this highly important – and highly topical – subject.
“Many people will be aware of issues within the social care sector at a surface level, but these problems run deeper than many realise, and require a significant change in the culture of key organisations, including care employers, the boards procuring care services and government itself.
“I look forward to discussing this in depth, and engaging with the audience in attendance on the night.”

Professor Milan Radosavljevic, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation & Engagement), added: “This series of Inaugural Lectures will highlight the world-changing research taking place at University of the West of Scotland, through the eyes of our widely-respected and cited academics.
“Professor Gibb’s research on social care is a great example of this, having helped steer government policy. I have no doubt that this will be an engaging lecture, that will shed light on problems faced within this crucial sector.”
The lecture, entitled Organisation Cultures and Their Contexts: The Critical Case of Fair Work in Social Care, takes place on Monday 16 January at 5pm. You can register to attend – for free – via Eventbrite.
