Do you want to get into teaching?

University of the West of Scotland’s Professional Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary), which produces motivated, energetic and talented secondary school teachers, has a limited number of places remaining for August 2018 entry.

Multiple teaching qualifications are offered within this course including Art and Design; Biology with Science; Chemistry with Science; English; Mathematics; Modern Languages (French, German, Spanish); Physical Education; and Physics with Science.

It provides the formal teaching qualification for provisional registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), preparing students for a career in secondary school teaching.

The course is carried out in partnership with schools in which students spend 18 weeks on placement. University-based study focuses on curriculum, methods of teaching and learning, and assessment, alongside theoretical and practical aspects of professional studies in education.

The best thing about studying my course at UWS has been the friendliness and support of staff and others on the course.

Annuska Dawson, PGDE Secondary Biology with Science student, said: “I’ve always loved biology, even in school. I think science is an amazing subject with constant advances. Placement has been challenging but very rewarding and allowed me to get a real feel for my future career.”

Students are central to everything that UWS does and 94% of students from the University’s School of Education who participated in the most recent Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey said that they would recommend UWS to a friend.

I chose to study at UWS because of the dual subject option in Physics and Maths, the very welcoming staff and the Ayr Campus location.
Adrien Mime, PGDE Secondary Physics and Maths student

Adrien Mime, PGDE Secondary Physics and Maths student, said: “The lecturers are supportive and understanding, but always expect the best from their students. The courses are engaging and delivered by professionals from different backgrounds. The course is demanding and prepares you well for what is coming in the life of a probationer. One thing is for sure, you will not be bored.”
