It was a real pleasure to deliver the seminar at the University of the West Scotland. I was delighted to meet with and take questions from the students on the Parliamentary Studies Module. I was hugely impressed by their interest in and understanding of Parliament, and I hope they found the session as worthwhile and enjoyable as I did. The Parliamentary Studies module provides a great opportunity for students to learn more about the practical side of Parliamentary processes, combined with robust academic content created by the University”.Rt Hon John Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons
The Rt Hon John Bercow, the Speaker of the House of Commons, delivered a seminar to our final year students on our BA (Hons) Social Science on Friday 2 February 2018.
The students are currently undertaking the Parliamentary Studies module, which is the only higher education module formally approved and co-taught by the Houses of Parliament. The module provides students with a detailed knowledge of how the Parliament works in both theory and practice. It is delivered through a partnership between the Houses of Parliament and UWS; the University provides academic and theoretical content, and Parliament provides practical teaching about the work, processes and business of Parliament.
As part of the module, the students participated in the seminar at the University’s Paisley Campus led by The Rt Hon John Bercow. He delivered the seminar on the role and modernisation of the UK Parliament.
Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of UWS, expressed his delight in welcoming John Bercow to the Paisley Campus to deliver this seminar to our social science students. Professor Mahoney added:
At UWS we are committed to equipping our students with skills and training required for success in the workplace and it is great that they benefit from gaining insight from leading experts in their field such as the Speaker of the House of Commons".Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal and Vice-Chancellor, UWS
We are delighted to be delivering the Parliamentary Studies module as part of our BA (Hons) Social Science degree. The module is hugely popular with our students, who benefit greatly from seminars such as the one delivered by The Rt Hon John Bercow which saw him deliver a fascinating insight into the role of the UK Parliament and parliamentary reform".Professor Margaret Arnott, Professor of Public Policy, UWS
