A Scottish Funding Council report, released today has shown that UWS continues to be Scotland’s leading university for Widening Access to students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
UWS Principal and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Craig Mahoney, said: “I very much welcome today’s Scottish Funding Council report which confirms that UWS continues to be the sector leader in Scotland, ensuring that more people from disadvantaged backgrounds have the opportunity to access Higher Education.
“Today’s report has revealed that almost a quarter of all SIMD 20* students in Scotland are studying at UWS.
“Data from the report also shows that in the past five years retention of SIMD 20 students at UWS has improved by very nearly 10% - the biggest improvement in student retention rates across the entire Scottish Higher Education sector."
