UWS has been shortlisted for five prestigious Herald Higher Education Awards, recognising the University’s commitment to the student experience and its pioneering research and technological approaches.
The University has been recognised in the Supporting Student Wellbeing category for its compassionate, community-based response to supporting students throughout the pandemic and beyond, as well as being shortlisted as a contender for Research Project of the Year for its pioneering work in driving Europe’s innovation and standardisation of ‘self-organising’ 5G networks.
UWS is also a finalist in the Outstanding Business Engagement category for the University’s ground-breaking AI drone technology partnership with multinational firm, Thales, as well as in the Marketing and PR Campaign of the Year category for revolutionising the applicant experience with Scotland’s first personalised digital prospectus.
Following the sector-wide move to hybrid learning as a result of the pandemic, the University is also a finalist in the Innovative Use of Technology category for its implementation of an innovative social learning platform to launch hybrid learning for the benefit of students.

We are delighted and incredibly proud to have been shortlisted for five Herald Higher Education Awards. After a year that has forced the sector to adapt and change like never before, it is fantastic to see UWS recognised as finalists in such a broad range of categories, from our commitment to student support and the student experience, to our ground-breaking research and the innovative technological approaches we adopt across the University. I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the hard work and dedication of colleagues and students at UWS. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to deliver such a high standard of learning, teaching, research and enterprise, all of which has been recognised through this prestigious award shortlisting.
Professor Craig Mahoney, Principal & Vice-Chancellor of UWS
