A group of University of the West of Scotland (UWS) Masters students are hosting an online event offering an introduction to the music industry and advice on overcoming the challenges of Covid-19 for young creatives and grass-roots musicians.
With the creative industries amongst the hardest hit by the pandemic, ‘PULSE: Music vs Covid-19’ seeks to provide reassurance to those starting out in the music industry. The student-led event will consist of talks from music industry experts, digital masterclasses, creative content and musical performances, highlighting opportunities in music despite the current barriers created by the pandemic.
The event has been organised by Remote Arts UWS, a group of 15 Master’s students studying the University’s MA Music programmes in Songwriting, Sound Production and Music Industries. The students – who have been working remotely since the start of term and are yet to meet face to face due to current coronavirus restrictions – have been using technology and their creativity to bring the live stream to life.
Topics covered in the event will include:
- How to be creative, even when it’s hard
- How to record from home (on a budget)
- Keeping on top of your mental health
- What’s next? Music PR and music marketing
The sessions will be punctuated by original songs written and recorded by the group’s Songwriting students.
You can follow the event on YouTube on Saturday 14 November from 1pm to 5pm by searching for Remote Arts UWS. Follow the creative collective on Twitter (@UwsArts), Facebook (/remoteartsuws) and Instagram (@remoteartsuws).
