The Creative Computing Technologies (CCT) Research Group is a multidisciplinary group part of the Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Communications and Networks (AVCN) Research Centre. CCT is the hub of expertise in Computer Animation, 3D Modelling, Computer Games Development, High-Power Computing, Extended Realities, Immersive Audio and Music Technologies at UWS.
CCT aims to advance and understand the technical application of creative computing technologies and virtual environments to address local and global societal and industrial challenges in a range of aspects including, but not limited to education and training, cultural heritage, entertainment, e-sports, and health and wellbeing.
The group has a long-standing tradition of industry engagement with industries, such as Smartify, The VR Hive, The Scottish Crannog Centre, Codeplay, and Swagelock. Through industry and academic collaboration CCT aim to address the United Nation Sustainability Goals of ‘Good Health and Well Being’, ‘Quality Education’, ‘Gender Equality’, ‘Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure’, and ‘Reduced Inequalities’.

- Quality Education: the research group aims is the study of how Creative Computing Technologies such as Serious Games, Extended Realities and AI can influence learning, student engagement and retention when applied in education settings (training, higher education, personal development)
- Good Health and Well Being: The group aims to understand how the application of creative computing technologies, such as immersive audio, extended realities, and music technologies can support and improve people wellbeing
- Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure: the group is also interested in the application of creative computing technologies for the development and validation methodologies for virtual prototyping in design processes applied to software, engineering, and cultural heritage;
- Gender Equality and Reduced Inequalities: The group aims to understand how creative computing technologies can help bridge the gender gap and allow access to educational and other resources to people that currently are not able to access them, thus reducing inequality.
