PhD Studentships

UWS has a strong and growing research community. We are constantly on the lookout for talented prospective PhD students with outstanding academic ability and commitment to join our vibrant and growing programme of internationally excellent research.

Studentships recognise academic talent by providing a generous financial contribution towards your PhD-level studies.

Two categories of studentships are available:

  • Studentship –  for UK/EU PhD students
  • International Research Excellence Scholarship – for self-funding, non-EU PhD students

Successful applicants will receive a generous financial award from UWS, as well as benefit from our intellectually stimulating and inclusive research environment and from enhanced career development support and professional skills training.

Studentship

Studentships are available to UK/EU students with a good first degree. Successful students will receive an annual stipend (currently £14,296) per annum for three years and payment of tuition fees.

International Research

Excellence Scholarship International Research Excellence Scholarships are available to self-funding, full fee-paying non-EU students who gain a place on a full-time research programme at UWS. Successful students will receive £2,000 towards the costs of their studies.

How to apply

When you apply for your Postgraduate Research degree via our online application system please state on your research application that you are applying for a Studentship or International Research Excellence Scholarship.

Applicants are reminded that funding will be considered as part of a competitive process and there is no guarantee that it will be awarded. Successful applicants will be expected to contribute up to 6 hours per week to UWS academic-related activities.
