An Investigation on Friction Grip Bolted Connections for Cold-Formed Steel Under Shear Loading
Student: Robbie Macdonald
Industry-sponsored project involving Steel-Hub and A.Steadman & Son
Using an Instron machine located in-situ within an industrial environment setting, UWS student Robbie Macdonald conducted this civil engineering investigation where he explored the effect torque has on a friction bolted connection, gauging displacement. Prior to conducting his test on the point at which a metal component would fail under loading pressure, he had to separately calculate the Kilonewtons (a unit of measurement of force) of 60% of the maximum load of the component in advance of conducting his industrial testing. The video below demonstrates his investigation being conducted, followed by Robbie’s spoken explanation of what he has undertaken and the outcome.
