The University of the West of Scotland's Hamilton Campus is located in the centre of Hamilton, Scotland's fifth largest town, and is just 20 minutes by train from Glasgow. It is well served by public transport links, cycle paths and walking routes. UWS supports and encourages students to make sustainable travel choices for their journey to Hamilton Campus wherever possible.

Walking and cycling

If you live within 2 miles of Hamilton Campus, you could save money and get fit by walking. If you live a bit further away, you could try cycling to campus.

Sustrans is an organisation that maintain national cycle routes in the UK. Enter the Hamilton Campus postcode (ML3 OJB) into the Sustrans map to see routes that take you close to the campus. Cycle parking, shower facilities and lockers are available throughout the campus.

Further information on cycling and sustainable travel can be found on the sustainability pages of the SAUWS website.

Public transport

The UWS Hamilton Campus is well served by public transport links with good connections to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Stirling. The nearest railway station is Hamilton West and there is a fast and frequent rail service between Hamilton and Glasgow Central. There are also bus stops located immediately outside the campus on both Almada Street and Bothwell Road.

Alternatively, you can plan your walking, cycling or public transport route with Google Maps or Traveline Scotland.

By car

Student parking on campus is limited and allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Students are advised to make use of public transport to the campus or to car-share as much as possible. Public car parks and on-street pay and display parking is available in the vicinity of the campus.

As well as decreasing carbon emissions, car-sharing significantly reduces fuel costs. The UWS journey share scheme can help you find someone to share your journey with.
