Activity challenges
From mid-March we will be launching UWS Activity Challenges to help inspire and motivate you to be active as part of a wider community of activity. Challenges may include aims relating to the minutes of physical activity or steps that you achieve or the distance you run or cycle.
Once Challenges are launched you will be able to find and join these on the web by searching for challenges within our activity finder above, or by downloading the Playwaze app from here, signing up, and then searching for and joining “UWS Active Community”.

HOW ELSE CAN I TAKE PART IN THE UWS ACTIVE COMMUNITY?
Tips of the day
Keep an eye on our Team UWS social media channels for tips of the day. Throughout January 2021 these tips will have a nutrition and diet focus with different topics focused on as the year progresses.
Our social media accounts are available on each of our campus gym pages here. You will can also see this content on the Team UWS Facebook and Twitter pages.
UWS Active Community Facebook group
As part of our efforts to promote the UWS Active Community, we have launched a new Facebook group in which you can engage more directly with all members of the community. You will find it here. This page features content from UWS Sport and allows members to share their own hints and tips, provide encouragement to each other and ask any questions you might have.
This Group is where you will find out first about how to engage in prize draws and reward initiatives as part of the campaign.
vlogs and blogs
Over the coming months we will be sharing a range of content with the UWS Active Community. These will include a range of vlogs and blogs that focus on all aspects of physical and mental wellbeing, including hints and tips from our staff and students.
We will post details of all of these here as they become available.
Pop-up sport activities
Unfortunately, due to current government guidelines we are unable to provide any on-campus sporting activities for the UWS Active Community. However, as restrictions hopefully ease in the Spring we will be hosting pop-up sport activities across our campuses as well as re-opening our gyms when it is safe to do so.
Keep an eye on these pages for the latest information.
ADDITIONAL ADVICE
The NHS recommends that adults do at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise throughout the week – like a brisk walk, riding your bike, dancing or hiking – or 75 minutes of vigorous activity – including jogging or running, swimming fast, sports like football, rugby or hockey, or aerobics.
Whether you’re going for a walk, doing some yoga, heading out for a run or trying an at-home fitness classes – like our upcoming daily fitness videos, designed by our gym teams – there’s plenty you can do to keep on top of your physical and mental wellbeing.
