The site now boasts a full resistance cardio suite where you can select your desired level of intensity through our digital screens and full resistance on strength equipment machines including weights up to 130kg, all incorporated in a fully functional fitness space that caters for all levels of fitness and includes the below highlighted zones:
- Agility Zone
- Cardio Zone
- Resistance Training Zone
- Functional Training Zone
- Fitness Class/Free Fit Zone
Read on for further information on each of these areas.
Agility Zone
Why not give our Agility Zone a try? Agility training is a key part of any well-rounded fitness program, but it’s frequently left out of many standard workout routines.
When it comes to comprehensive fitness training, you’re probably familiar with the importance of strength and aerobic training. While both are needed for health and performance, it’s a good idea to include agility training alongside these methods.
Agility training brings a host of benefits for individuals of all ages, occupations, and fitness needs.
For general fitness, when compared with inactivity, agility training improves a range of physical performance metrics including:
- lower and upper body strength
- lower body and trunk explosive power
- walking mechanics and endurance
- balance
- mobility
Cardio Zone
UWS cardio zone focuses on working the heart, lungs and major muscle groups with a view to improving overall fitness and body composition. The full resistance kit allows you to select a range of resistance levels while working out. Allowing you to choose from a light cycle in the summer sun to a full on hill climb on the Total Body Trainer, it is a fantastic way to improve your overall fitness.
Benefits of cardiovascular training:
- Improves the function of heart and lungs
- Maintaining a healthy heart is a priority when confronted by such health risks as a sedentary lifestyle, smoking, cholesterol and diabetes
- It contributes to weight loss, particularly by promoting fat loss (especially belly fat) in favour of muscle mass
- When performing cardio exercises properly, you will strengthen other muscles, too, such as arms, legs, abs and lumbar muscles, developing a slender, sculpted figure
- It lifts the spirits and helps to fight against stress, negative thoughts, and even depression
Resistance Training Zone
Come along and try our full Resistance Training Zone where you can replicate the same actions normally found in an internal traditional gym. Our onsite equipment including chest press, leg press etc. comes with maximum resistance levels of around 130kg. Resistance training is a core part of any well-balanced exercise regime and with it comes a range of health benefits.
Benefits of resistance training:
- Develop and improve strength in the upper and lower body
- Resistance training will help improve your muscle tone
- Increase metabolism that assists with burning calories and weight loss
- Improve muscular endurance and increase your stamina
Functional Training Zone
Our onsite Functional Training Rig has a selection of equipment to meet your functional training needs. Functional training is a type of exercise that looks to replicate movements you make in your daily life. It can be helpful for athletic performance, injury prevention, and other everyday fitness tasks. Functional training can also be a more time-efficient method of developing fitness and weight loss than focusing on one muscle at a time. Adding a few shorter, more intense full-body exercise sessions to your routine boosts the calories you burn.
Benefits of functional training:
- Develops total body strength
- Improve your movement in everyday life
- Improves and develops balance and coordination
- Assist with injury prevention
- Enhance athletic performance
Fitness Class/Free Fit Zone
Why not get the most out of the UWS Fitness Class/Free Fit Zone? Join us during our staff led sessions.
In a well prepared group exercise class, you don’t have to worry about being better than everyone around you. Everyone was a beginner at some point. Or indeed why not create your own circuit with our onsite fitness class timer out with scheduled sessions?
Benefits of Fitness Class/Free Fit Zone:
- Find motivation and inspiration. The best way to motivate yourself to push through that extra rep is by having other people by your side to cheer you on. Plus, it’s hard not to get inspired by your classmates.
- Proper form helps prevent injury. One of the most valuable parts of any exercise class is its trainers. Group exercise is a great middle-ground between working out alone and hiring a personal trainer.
- Be part of a community. It may sound cliché, but it’s true. By being part of a community, you can find support and guidance from people who are on the same journey as you.
- Add variety to your workout. Doing the same moves over and over again can get stale. Not only is it boring, but it also might be hindering your results. Adding variety to your workout is one of the best ways to prevent plateau, and group exercise classes are an easy way to switch things up.
