An academic and industry-renowned television producer from University of the West of Scotland (UWS) has been elected Secretary of Royal Television Society (RTS) Scotland.

Daniel Twist – a lecturer in BA Broadcast Production: TV & Radio at UWS – succeeds Professor Alastair Scott in the prestigious role.

As Secretary of RTS Scotland, he will play a key role in championing Scotland’s television scene to key stakeholders; with the aim of helping the industry develop and grow. The organisation is an educational charity, which looks to encourage and celebrate the work of the TV industry.

He said: “I am delighted and proud to have been elected Secretary of RTS Scotland. The television industry in Scotland has thrived in recent years, with high profile productions benefitting the economy, production companies and, of course, UWS students and graduates through the opportunities created.

“I am excited to be in a position to help further this growth, and to promote the value of this exciting industry.”

Daniel has worked in the television industry for more than 20-years, and his career has seen him work for major broadcasters such as the BBC, STV, ITV and Channel 4.

He has worked on iconic television shows such The Weakest Link, Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away, Antiques Road Trip and Countdown; winning multiple awards.In 2019, he became an Executive in the Nations and Regions department at Channel 4, supporting independent TV production companies in building relationships with the channel.

He joined UWS in 2021.
