UWS Free Educational Events
The link below shows attendance at our public events since 2021.
UWS hosts a range of free educational events which are open to students, staff and the general public. In 2023/24 our public events were attended by 7,479 attendees and involved 128 days of staff time.
These events included our series of Brough Lectures covering a range of topics. In 2024 we held a Brough Lecture on the on the theme of “Why Leaders Should Embrace Auditors.”
We also held public events as part of the UWS Entrepreneurship Discussion series. This is a dynamic initiative curated by the University which focuses on bridging the gap between classroom knowledge and real-world entrepreneurship.
Successful entrepreneurs are invited on campus to share their stories, insights, and expertise with our aspiring students, graduates, staff, and local communities.
These events are designed to inspire all attendees, allowing a better understanding of entrepreneurship and innovation, whilst providing an opportunity to engage directly with the entrepreneurs and ask questions throughout.
Previously we have held events such as:
UWS Brough Lecture 2024 - ‘Why Leaders Should Embrace Auditors’
The annual UWS Brough Lecture in 2024 was presented by Anthony Garnett - international oversight professional, currently working for UNHCR as their Inspector General - on the theme of “Why Leaders Should Embrace Auditors.” Taking place at our University of the West of Scotland Paisley campus, Anthony Garnett's lecture reflected on a career in accountancy, auditing and oversight across the private, public and university sectors in both the UK and internationally, and ultimately why leaders of all organisations - large and small - should embrace auditors and the audit process.
