Scottish Technical Conference

A cohort of UWS's technical staff from the schools of HLS and BCI attended the ‘Scottish Technical Staff Conference’ held at the Universiy of Glasgow, on 10th June 2025.  

This conference was jointly organised by the University of Glasgow, University of Edinburgh, University of Aberdeen, University of Dundee, University of Strathclyde and UWS.  

The conference was attended by over 250 technical delegates from Scottish HEI’s and was a great opportunity for networking with other technical colleagues, to gain sector-wide updates around the Technician Commitment, best working practices across the Scottish HEI’s and in the development of career development and framework opportunities to be shared. 
  
Guest speakers included:

• Daniel Johnson, MSP and  Scottish Labour Spokesperson for the Economy, Business and Fair Work 
• Ed Bowerman, Technical Skills and Knowledge Exchange Lead. Institute for Technical Strategy and Skills (ITSS) 
• Frances Medaney, Scottish Research Cultures Collaboration Manager, Scottish Funding Council (SFC) 

Each member of the organising committee provided an update on their instiution's journey with the Technician Commitment and shared success stories so far. Marie Anne Pringle, our Technician Commitment Co-lead, gave an update on our journey so far at UWS.   

The Scottish Technician Network had updates provided by Sally Morgan from University of Edinburgh.
