What the Development Fund is
The UWS Development Fund was established in 2022 to support students across our five campuses. It is a fund of money collected through generous donations from our alumni, friends, and staff.
The fund is open for applications from students or staff to request financial assistance for student initiatives to support student learning, development or engagement.
Enhancing Academic Journeys and Student Experiences
The UWS Development Fund is dedicated to empowering students by providing the resources they need to thrive both academically and personally during their time at university. From funding essential course-related items to supporting extracurricular involvement, the Fund offers targeted assistance where it has the greatest impact. These interventions help reduce barriers to participation and ensure students can make the most of their time at UWS.
Examples of support include:
- Financial assistance for course-related software and equipment
- Travel costs to academic events, industry placements, or fieldwork
- Funding for additional qualifications or short courses that complement a student’s degree
- Starter packs for students moving into accommodation without essential items
Beyond the classroom, the Fund also supports initiatives that enrich the wider student experience. Whether it’s joining the Students’ Union, representing Team UWS in sport, or engaging in academic societies, students are encouraged to build friendships, gain new skills, and make lasting memories.
Our Student Voices
Being part of the Midwifery Society at UWS has been an incredible experience. Thanks to funding from the Development Fund, we’ve been able to organise specialist workshops, attend industry events, and bring in guest speakers who provide invaluable insights into the profession. This support has allowed us to enhance our learning beyond the classroom, connect with fellow students, and feel even more prepared for our future careers as midwives.”
