Fortunately, there is a great deal of financial support available to help students meet the cost of their study. This ranges from:
- statutory government loans to pay for tuition fees
- scholarships for Scottish, Rest of UK (English, Welsh & Northern Irish), Republic of Ireland, EU/EEA and International (non-EU) students
- bursaries to help towards living expenses

Scottish Students
Scottish students studying at undergraduate level at UWS may be entitled to various funds and support towards tuition fees and living costs.
WEST Scholarship Programme
At UWS, we believe financial restrictions should never be a barrier to your education.
The WEST (Widening Education and Supporting Talent) Scholarship Programme aims to remove the financial barriers that stop talented students from progressing throughout their degree to graduation.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
Amount: £1,250 per year up to a maximum of £5,000 over four years
Conditions: To be eligible for a WEST Scholarship, candidates must have accepted an offer of admission to an undergraduate degree course at UWS and;
Nationality: Various (candidates must be domiciled in Scotland)
Subject: Any
Level of study: Undergraduate
Mode of study: Full-time

UWS Postgraduate Tuition Fee Offer
UWS offers a 20% tuition fee discount for UWS alumni and graduating students applying to study on full-time Masters' degrees starting from September 2023.
UWS graduating students
If you are an existing UWS undergraduate student in your final year of study and wish to progress on to a full-time UWS Masters' degree, you can take advantage of our 20% Tuition Fee Discount*.
In addition, rather than completing a full application, you can also use the UWS Student Fast Track Application service.
Please note, the 20% Tuition Fee Discount* for UWS graduating students applies to those applying to study on a full-time Masters' degree.
UWS Alumni
If you are a graduate (former student) of the university, you are automatically a member of our Alumni Association and may also be eligible for a 20 % discount on Masters’ Degree tuition fees* for study on a full-time Masters' degree programme
*This discount cannot be combined with any other tuition fee discount or scholarship. This tuition fee discount applies to self-funding UWS Alumni enrolled on a full-time UWS Masters’ degree starting in September 2023 or later at a UWS Scottish campus. The offer applies to full-time Masters courses only; It does not apply to PGDE, MEng, PgCert or PgDip courses. To qualify, students are required to have studied at UWS or a previous higher education institution which is now part of UWS, for at least one year and meet the course entry requirements.
Rest of UK & Republic of Ireland Students
English, Welsh, Northern Irish and Republic of Ireland students studying at UWS are entitled to various funds and support towards tuition fees and living costs.
UWS Undergraduate Honours Year Scholarship
This bursary is granted to all undergraduate students who are classified as either Rest of UK (English, Welsh, Northern Irish) or Irish (Republic of Ireland) for the purposes of Tuition Fee Status.
Amount: one full year of tuition fees
Conditions: You must be classified as a Rest of UK (English, Welsh, Northern Irish) or Republic of Ireland (Irish) student to qualifiy for this Scholarship. You must be studying full-time at any of our campuses.
How to Apply: automatically granted to all students entering either Year 4 of a bachelor degree (BA (Hons) / BAcc (Hons) / BEng (Hons) / BSc (Hons)) or Year 5 of an integrated master's degree (MEng (Hons))
This means that if you are studying for a bachelor or integrated master's degree you will receive your Honours degree and only pay for either three or four years respectively (as opposed to paying for four or five years respectively).
UWS Undergraduate Merit Bursary
The UWS Merit Bursary is a targetted bursary and only applies to all students who are classified as [either] Rest of UK (English, Welsh, Northern Irish) [or Irish (Republic of Ireland)] for the purposes of Tuition Fee Status.
Amount: £1,000 for each year of study
Conditions: will be awarded to first degree (bachelor) entrants who have attained BBB or better at GCE A-level (or equivalent). Awarded to students who have applied to study full-time at one of our Scottish campuses only.

UWS Sport Scholarship
The UWS Sport Scholarship aims to support those with the potential to be at the top of their sport.
There are three different levels of scholarship on offer: Gold, Silver & Bronze.
Eligibility:
- Gold: National or International Standard
- Silver: National Standard
- Bronze: Regional Standard but who can demonstrate the potential for success at national level
Undergraduate and postgraduate students are eligible for this scholarship. You must be studying either full-time or part-time at one of our Scottish campuses.
All the UWS Sport Scholarships will provide financial scholarships as well as support for student athletes to access the University's sports facilities, educational workshops, and sports science/medicine support.
International Students
There are several scholarship and incentive schemes available to International (including EU/EEA) students studying at UWS.
UWS Global Scholarships for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students
UWS offers a limited number of Global Scholarships, aimed at international (including EU/EEA) students who have achieved academic excellence in their studies prior to applying to UWS for undergraduate (bachelor's) degree or taught postgraduate degree studies*.
Value: The UWS Global Scholarship is worth either £1500 for every year of your undergraduate studies or a single one-off £1500 for taught postgraduate studies.
Please note the following:
- The scholarship can only be awarded to unconditional offer holders and prior to a CAS being issued
- If you meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship, it will be deducted automatically from your tuition fees before your CAS is issued
- The scholarship is only available to students applying to study at one of our Scottish campuses
- No scholarships will be awarded retrospectively
- The UWS International Team will guide and support you through the application process and your eligibility for this scholarship
Conditions: The UWS Global Scholarship is open to unconditional offer holders, who are self-funding, full-time, full fee-paying, international (including EU/EEA) students who have applied to study one of our bachelor degrees at one of our four Scottish Campuses.
* Exceptions: The scholarship does not apply to applicants for the following courses: DBA and all Research (MRes, MPhil, PhD) programmes and the Graduate Diploma (GradDip) in Business & Management).
