The Paisley Abbey Choral Scholarship offers a unique opportunity for talented singers to join the renowned Choir of Paisley Abbey, a group celebrated globally for its exceptional performances.
The successful candidate would be expected to lead one of the four choral sections determined by their own voice (for example, a high male voice would lead the tenor section) and to sing solos as necessary.
The successful candidate will receive some of the best choral training on offer in Scotland which will greatly improve their musical abilities and enhance their CVs.
With musical training of such high order, many past Choral Scholars have become professional musicians.
Please note that this Scholarship is provided by Paisley Abbey and not UWS.
Amount: £3,000 per annum
Duration: September 2024 to June 2025
Application deadline: 28th October 2024
Commitments: Successful applicants are expected to commit to rehearsals and performances.
The choir seeks to offer material from all main traditions of the Church including Palestrina, Byrd, Purcell, Bach, Handel, Mozart, Fauré, Britten and MacMillan. Prof George McPhee, Director of Music, has composed a considerable amount of music especially for the Abbey choir and this is also part of the regular repertoire.
The choir occasionally broadcasts and performs concerts outside the Abbey. While Paisley Abbey is part of the Church of Scotland, adherence to the church is not a requirement for choir members. However, Choral Scholars must respect the devotional nature of the choir's work.

Payment of the scholarship is subject to participation in the full rehearsal and performance schedule set out for choristers, unless prior agreement to miss a rehearsal or performance has been made.

The award of the Scholarship is for one person and subject to successful audition.
