The Scottish Government’s Minister for Higher and Further Education has visited University of the West of Scotland (UWS) to find out more about the innovative approach taken to ensuring student success.
Graeme Dey MSP met with staff and students at UWS’s Paisley campus, and heard directly from students and staff about the University’s Supporting Student Success model; which provides a personalised approach to student development.
The model, using learner analytics, ensures that expert staff proactively identify and engage with students who need additional support. This tailored support provides students with a personal plan to help them get their studies back on track.
Mr Dey spoke to students, and discussed ways in which UWS had supported them in their studies, and also heard from Early Intervention Specialists, learning more about how they work.
He also had the opportunity to learn of some the impactful research being undertaken at the university that was recently showcased during COP28 in Dubai.

“The Supporting Student Success model not only has a positive impact on our economy and society, but it also helps to break down the barriers that young people from deprived areas face - which is a key priority for the Scottish Government.”
