Coach education workshop provision
We can deliver coach education workshops for CPD purposes on a range of topics, such as:
-
Interpersonal coaching skills (namely motivational coaching behaviours)
-
Skill acquisition and pedagogy (including integrating psychosocial athlete development into coaching sessions and curriculum design)
-
Professional development skills for coaches
Exact topics can be negotiated based on what is desired and possible, with the above examples aligned to current staff expertise.
Workshops can be delivered online, at clubs or on university campus, availability and distance dependent, and would typically occur during the daytime in line with staff working hours however out of hour delivery can be negotiated.
Coach mentorship/project consultation
We can provide 1-2-1 or group level consultations with academic coaching staff, relating to the following ambitions:
-
Personal development needs and mentorship
-
Coach education advice for coach developers
-
Project development and research assistance
Consultation is led by Dr Mark Carroll unless a more appropriate staff member can be identified and available. Consultations can occur online, at clubs or on university campus, availability and distance dependent. Single or repeat sessions are both welcome, and staff involvement in projects/research is dependent on suitability, timescales, and resources required.
Coach analysis
We can carry out field work designed to help individual coaches or groups of coaches better understand their coaching behaviours (specifically those concerning the coach-created motivational environment). Activities can be tailored to better features, effects, and/or influences on behaviours. To these ends, field work may involve the following:
-
Coaching observations, wherein we systematically code and/or take fieldnotes around interpersonal coaching behaviours (typically across several observations to develop an accurate picture)
-
Interviewing/questionnaires with coaches, athletes, and other connected stakeholders
Field work can be done remotely or in person, availability and distance dependent, and would typically occur during the daytime in line with staff working hours however out of hour delivery can be negotiated. More extensive analysis can be negotiated as part of a project consultation (see service 2).
I have been delighted with our collaborations with UWS. From an academy perspective the close relationship has allowed us to build a psychosocial programme within our environment that sits us at the forefront of young player development. Ongoing research via MSc and PHD students over the next 3-4 years will help shape our environment. This would not be possible without the support of the University and in particularly Mark Carroll who has been a real driving force behind our project. We look forward to seeing the outcomes over the next few years as we continue to grow our relationship and deliver new joint projects.”
