This isokinetic test can assess strength across a range of joints and muscle groups. It is the gold standard at measuring strength following an injury and can highlight weaknesses between muscles or limbs. The data report produced can inform rehabilitation programmes.
Isokinetic Strength Dynamometry Test is one of the most accurate and reliable methods for assessing muscle strength. If you have had a related injury, please confirm with an appropriate clinician (e.g. your surgeon or physiotherapist) that an isokinetic strength dynamometry test is suitable for you. Once you have purchased the assessment, a confirmation email will be sent to you.
The benefits of the test are:
- It is performed by a registered Physiotherapist.
- It is performed through a comfortable range of joint movements.
- Assessment of isolated muscle strength.
- Comparisons between muscle groups.
- Comparisons with the opposite (unaffected) limb.
- Standardised protocols which can be reliably repeated to allow monitoring over time.
A range of joints and muscle groups can be tested:
- Knee joint assessing the quadricep and hamstring muscles
- Muscle strength testing of the hip and ankle joints
- Upper body joints such as muscle strength of the shoulder and elbow joints
What happens during an isokinetic strength dynamometer test:
The desired joint is tested by a large dynamometer machine connected to a computer. The joint is tested in a suitable position with dynamometer arm attached to the limb.
You will be asked to push or pull against the dynamometer arm which will provide resistance at a pre-determined speed. The computer records the test and provides data which will appear in a report.
What happens after the test:
Your test data will be analysed and you will be provided a test report which will outline any weakness between limbs and/or muscle groups.
The report can also identify weaknesses following an injury which can inform a rehabilitation programme.
The report can offer recommendations which you can discuss with your own surgeon, physiotherapist or rehab specialist.
We can offer advice about re-testing to monitor and track your rehabilitation progress.
