ASCPP's international links
Strategy 2030 case study
Our Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice (ASCPP) is a unique partnership between UWS and Alzheimer Scotland, providing a high-quality environment for applied research, education and social enterprise. The Centre is committed to improving the lives of people living with dementia and those who care for them in Scotland, and in communities around the world.
ASCPP’s research is grounded in collaboration with people with lived experience, health and social care professionals and international research partners. The Centre has built a global reputation for excellence in applied research, education and social innovation, ensuring that real world challenges in dementia care are met with practical and evidence informed solutions.
With partnerships in ten countries, ASCPP's international reach has shaped high-level discussions on dementia care at forums including the Global Alzheimer Research and Care Summit (Lisbon 2017) and Europe’s largest long-term care sector conference (Poland 2019).
One of the Centre's most significant projects brought together partners in the Czech Republic, Finland, Portugal, Scotland, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden to look at how to better support people living with advanced dementia. The result was a Best Practice Statement, now being used by the Czech Alzheimer Society who integrated it into the Vážka criteria and quality certification system, improving standards in 70 social care facilities.
The Centre's educational influence is equally far-reaching. Universities in Spain, Portugal, Mexico and Columbia have embedded ASCPP's research into health and social care curricula, and Charles University in Prague has used the distinctive Palliare framework to refresh postgraduate dementia education.
The ASCPP encapsulates our commitment to solving global challenges and collaborating in research and partnerships across the globe to make lives better for individuals and communities.
