- Arabic
- British Sign Language
- French
- German
- Spanish
or to improve your previous knowledge in any of these languages.
Arabic and British Sign Language are offered at beginner’s level only.
For information about the timetables please email LanguagesforAll@uws.ac.uk
Open to everyone
The classes are suitable for anyone who wishes to learn a language for work or leisure, or to develop their existing knowledge.
They are open to students, staff, and members of the public.
Start at any level
There are modules at a variety of levels, from complete beginner, to modules that are suitable for students who have a good command of the language.
The majority of modules are twenty credits with some ten credit modules available as introductions to the language. See below for an example using Spanish.
- Introduction to Spanish 1 is for complete beginners and is a 10 credit module, running in trimester one (T1)
- Introduction to Spanish 2 is the follow-on module at 10 credits, running in trimester two (T2)
- Spanish 1.1 is 20 credits and suitable for complete beginners with no prior knowledge required. The contents of Introduction 1 and Introduction 2 are both covered in this module.
- Spanish 1.2 is 20 credits and aimed at students who have completed a 1.1 module or have an equivalent knowledge (e.g. a good Higher pass)
The modules above are all studied at SCQF level 7. Other levels of modules are available, please email LanguagesforAll@uws.ac.uk for more information.
Focus on practical skills
The focus is on practical language skills that you can use in social, academic and business contexts.
All classes are taught by native speakers.
For total language immersion, classes are conducted in the target language as much as possible.
Topics covered are wide ranging and take account of current debates in the countries whose languages you are studying.
As classes are relatively small you will find that your lecturers will soon know you individually.
All modules are credit bearing, the assessment is continuous and there is no exam at the end.
Weekly classes
Languages for All Daytime Classes are available during trimesters one and two.
Attendance will either be:
- two hours a week during trimesters one and two (20 credit modules)
or
- two hours a week for one trimester only (10 credit modules).
For further information please email LanguagesforAll@uws.ac.uk
All modules are subject to minimum numbers for viability. Higher level (SCQF level 9) will be three hours a week.
