Practical experience
Our programmes provide opportunities to gain practical experience relevant to your chosen career. Education students undertake placements in schools, while other programmes offer opportunities to develop your skills in community and childhood settings.
BA (Hons) Education students will complete a research project in an area linked to your career goals. The programme leads to qualified teacher status and guarantees you an induction place in a Scottish school following graduation – allowing you to continue honing your teaching skills while working in the classroom.
Research with real-world impact
UWS academics have a reputation for cutting-edge research and curriculum development in the education sector.
UWS’s research on the provision of Holocaust education in schools has shaped United Nations’ programmes and influenced teaching approaches in Scotland and internationally. It also launched the Vision Schools Scotland partnership between UWS and the Holocaust Educational Trust, which aims to develop best practice in Holocaust education.
Hear from our alumni
The BA Hons Education programme at UWS was significant in shaping my career. The coursework was a perfect mix of theory and practical learning. The wide range of relevant modules gave me a strong foundation, while the continuous reflective practice helped me improve in my role. The placements were especially valuable, letting me apply what I’d learned in real classrooms and grow as a teacher in a range of environments and stages".
