Charitable trusts and foundations across the UK work with UWS to educate and inspire our 20,000 students in Ayr, Dumfries, Lanarkshire, London, and Paisley.
They share our commitment to widening access to higher education, improving social inclusion, and reducing inequalities. Do you too?
Did you know that for the past ten years, UWS has been Scotland’s best university at helping people from disadvantaged backgrounds access higher education (Scottish Funding Council).
31% of Scottish students at UWS come from the most deprived post codes in Scotland – more than any other Scottish university.
Many UWS students are also single parents, carers, people who have lived in care, people estranged from their families, mature students. or the first in their family to go to university. This means our students need extra support to reach their potential.
We hope you will join us to transform lives and achieve your charitable objectives.
Making a difference together
Grants and of all sizes are vital to help our students succeed, and to develop research that create solutions for our society.
Below are a few examples of how trusts, foundations and funders have partnered with UWS:
WEST Scholarship
In academic year 2024/25, 18 donors and funders provided 47 UWS students with a WEST (Widening Education and Supporting Talent) Scholarship. They removed financial barriers that stop our talented students graduating from university and pursuing their careers. You can help more students through their hardship with a named scholarship.
Broadies Bikes
Cycling Scotland enhanced our free bike hire scheme for students in Paisley and Ayr. They funded new bikes and cycling equipment, new bike shelters, and maintenance classes. You can enable more students to access a bike for free, so they can travel sustainably and improve their wellbeing.
Foundation Academy
The John Mather Trust raised aspirations and attainment for over 800 pupils at 33 secondary schools. They enabled young people to experience studying at university level, develop academic skills, achieve a qualification, and improve the quality of their university application. You can increase access to university for more young people through this growing annual programme.
State-of-the-art facilities
The Holywood Trust and The Crichton Foundation improved the health and wellbeing of our students. They funded new cardio equipment in our free-to-use gym on our Dumfries campus. You can invest in new equipment, resources and buildings to give our students the best learning, research, and social experiences at university.
Research and PhDs
Many funders collaborate with us to create new knowledge and skills to tackle global issues. You can too.
