The Trade Union (Facility Time Publication Requirements) Regulations 2017 came into force on 1 April 2017.

The Regulations place a legislative requirement on relevant public sector employers, including HEIs in England and Scotland, to collate and publish a range of data on the amount and cost of facility time within their organisation on an annual basis.

UWS Facility Time Report

Reporting Period 1 April 2024 – 31 March 2025

In order to comply with The Trade Union Regulation (2017), UWS publishes details of the number of employees engaged in trade union activities, the percentage of their time that is spent on trade union activities, and the actual cost associated with trade union activities. This sections below provides details for the period 01 April 2024 - 31 March 2025.

What was the total number of employees who were relevant union officials during the period of 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025?

  • Number of employees who were relevant union officials during the relevant period - 16
  • Full-time equivalent employee number - 15 

How many employees, who were relevant union officials employed during the period of 1st April 2024 until 31st March 2025, spent (i) 0%; (ii) 1-50%; (iii) 51-99%; or (iv) 100% of their time on Faculty Time?

  • 0% - 5 employees
  • 1% - 50% - 10 employees
  • 51% - 99% - 1 employee
  • 100% - 0 employees

The percentage of the total pay bill spent on paying employees who were relevant trade union officials for facility time during the period of 1st April 2024 to 31st March 2025:

  • Total Cost of facility time - £126,470.56
  • Total pay bill - £93,554,420.47
  • Percentage (%) of the total pay bill spent on facility time - 0.14%

As a percentage (%) of total paid facility time hours, how many hours were spent by employees who were relevant union officials during the period of the reporting period of 1st April 2024 until 31st March 2025 on paid trade union activities?
