Staff Innovation
UWS has been growing its high value spin out portfolio since 2018 when we launched our first high growth spin out company (Novosound Ltd). The driver behind this work is both research impact (spin outs) and regional economic development.
Spin Out development has a high profile both at UWS and in the Scottish Government with the publication of its Entrepreneurial Campus Blueprint to:
“Establish Scotland as a world-class entrepreneurial nation founded on a culture that encourages, promotes and celebrates entrepreneurial activity in every sector of our economy”.
UWS has a significant impact on the places where we are located, creating companies, jobs, and tax revenues. By retaining expertise in our areas, we're able to inspire and educate future generations of entrepreneurs.
We have a significant emphasis on embedding entrepreneurship into the curriculum (under and past graduate). UWS have innovative programmes to achieve this as widely as possible as part of our investment in greater staff and student success.
UWS’ approach to spin out development has been widely recognised as best in class by investors, founders and the business community. Our approach aligns with all ten recommendations in the Entrepreneurial Campus Blueprint. To find out how you can be involved in high-value spin out development, please get in touch.

Student Innovation
Student innovation refers to the process by which students engage in activities and programmes involving creative thinking, problem-solving, and the development of ideas, products, services, or solutions.
It involves applying creative and inventive approaches to address challenges or to create something new. Student innovation is not limited to a specific field or discipline and can span a wide range of areas, including technology, business, social impact, arts, and sciences.
