Environmental Science & Sustainability

Developed in collaboration with industrial and educational partners, our Environmental Science and Sustainability programmes offer innovative teaching with a focus on providing solutions to real-world challenges.
First-class facilities at UWS
The newly-developed facilities at our Lanarkshire Campus include technology-enhanced bioscience teaching labs, specialised zoology laboratory facilities and a microbiology suite.
Our cutting-edge teaching facilities also include genomic, biochemical, cell biology and advanced image analysis systems.
World improving research
With research staff at the forefront of their profession, our academics are making a difference in areas including:
- Creating a viable preventative treatment for Acanthamoeba Keratitis – a devastating eye condition which affects millions of people each year
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) research
- Preventing Coronavirus transmission
- Aquaculture – fish health and welfare, disease mitigation
Real world experience
Get hands-on experience and enhance your CV with a placement opportunity. Some of our students have worked with the Scottish Ambulance Service, local authorities, NHS laboratories, Amazonia and industry giants including DEVRO, Ferring Controlled Therapeutics and GlaxoSmithKline.
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Many of our programmes are accredited or approved by professional bodies, including the Health and Care Professions Council, the Institute of Biomedical Science, and the Royal Society of Biology.
