Advice for Parents and Carers
Choosing where to study can be a difficult choice for your young person. At UWS, our goal is to create a welcoming community where every student feels supported, helping them to smoothly transition into both their studies and university life. We want to make sure that you have all the information you need to support your young person in the next steps of their education journey.
Apply to University
All university undergraduate applications are made through UCAS, a centralised online application platform for institutions across the UK. UCAS have many resources to help with the application process including money advice, careers quizzes and personal statement tips. They have also created a dedicated page to support parents/carers through the application process.

Preparation is Key
Before deciding to apply to UWS, it is important that your young person is fully prepared and has done their research. They will need to know what course they want to study, what campus the course is taught at, accommodation options (if required) and gain an understanding of UWS’s teaching style. The best way to do this is visit us, attend an Open Day or join an online information session.

Fees And Funding
All undergraduate tuition fees are published on each individual course web entry. Details are provided for Scottish, UK (English, Welsh and Northern Irish), Republic of Ireland and all other international (all other EU and non-EU) students for full-time, and part-time (where appropriate) study at any of our campuses (or online where, and if, appropriate). There is a great deal of financial support available to help students meet the cost of their study including government loans, scholarships and bursaries. The Student Awards Agency for Scotland (SAAS) can provide loans and bursaries to help with the costs of studying at university. You can find out more information and if you are eligible on the SAAS website.

Student Life And Support
At UWS, we are passionate about life outside our students’ academic study and for most subjects, Wednesday afternoons are free from classes to encourage students to get involved in all sorts of university activities, whether that be playing for one of our sports teams, joining a society or meeting up with fellow students to relax in our union spaces.
We also pride ourselves on supporting our students physical and mental wellbeing and encourage our students to make use of our amazing support teams throughout their time at UWS. This includes free gym access, counselling services, money advice, post-university careers advice, disability support and so much more!
