Thinking about transferring to UWS?
If you’re considering transferring from another institution, follow the process below to understand your options and next steps.
Transfer requests are assessed on a case-by-case basis, based on:
- Course availability
- Stage of study
- Compatibility of previous learning
Before you apply
Before submitting an application, you should:
- Review the course you are interested in, including entry requirements and module content [link to undergraduate course search page]
- Consider how your current study aligns with the UWS programme
- Be aware that transfer is not guaranteed and depends on academic assessment and available places
Some professionally regulated or highly competitive courses may have limited or no transfer opportunities.
How the transfer process works
1: Review your course options
- Use the UWS course pages to identify a suitable programme and check entry requirements and course structure.
2: Submit your application
- Full-time undergraduate applications are normally made through UCAS
- In some cases, direct application to UWS may be appropriate (e.g. part-time study)
- Apply only when you are confident the course is suitable based on your research.
3. Prepare supporting information
You will be asked to provide relevant documents to support your application. This typically includes:
- Academic transcripts
- Module descriptors
- Details of your current course and stage
Ensure these documents are available in advance, as they are required for academic assessment. Applications cannot be assessed without this information.
4. Academic assessment
The relevant academic team will review:
- Your previous study
- Credit compatibility
- Availability of places
5. Outcome
You will be advised of the decision and, if successful, your confirmed year of entry and next steps.
Important information
- Transfer is not guaranteed
- Entry to Year 2 or Year 3 is subject to academic approval
- Not all courses accept transfer applications
- Applications may be limited by availability at the point of assessment
Are you ready to apply?
Before submitting your application, make sure you can answer yes to the following:
- I have reviewed the UWS course and understand the structure and entry requirements
- I have considered how my current studies align with the course
- I understand that transfer is not guaranteed
- I have my academic transcripts and module information available
- I am applying through the correct route (UCAS or direct, where appropriate)
If you cannot answer yes to all of the above, you should review the information on this page before applying.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I transfer into Year 2 or Year 3?
This may be possible, but it depends on your previous study, credit compatibility and availability of places. All decisions are made by the academic team.
Will my previous modules or credits count?
This will be assessed as part of the academic review. You will need to provide module descriptors so this can be evaluated
Do I need to apply through UCAS?
Most full-time undergraduate applications should be made through UCAS. In some cases, direct application to UWS may be appropriate.
Can I transfer if I did not meet the original entry requirements?
This depends on your overall academic profile and previous study. Each application is considered individually.
Can I transfer during the academic year or mid-semester?
Transfers are typically considered at the start of an academic year. Mid-year transfers are not usually available.
What happens if there are no places available?
If a course is full, it may not be possible to offer a transfer place, even if your academic background is suitable. However, we may also be able to offer you a place on a suitable alternative programme if there are spaces.
