Your Academic, Personal & Professional Development
At UWS, we call this Aspire
UWS is committed to your success as a learner. Our entire educational philosophy is centred on creating an environment where you can flourish, where your talent is nurtured, where you are empowered to identify your strengths, as well as enhance your knowledge and skills that will help you navigate your studies, life and career.
To help you, we have created a framework for your academic, personal and professional development (APPD) at UWS; we call this Aspire.
Throughout your undergraduate studies at UWS you will find Aspire embedded in your curriculum – not just a bolt-on – but integrated throughout your studies to help you reflect on your academic, personal and professional development each year. It is designed, not only to help support you in every stage of your learning journey at UWS from the moment you join us to your graduation, but to do so in a manner that helps you build:
Aspire is delivered by your subject-discipline academic team to fit with your degree studies but will also draw upon the expertise from other teams within UWS as required, such as:
Aspire helps you actively focus on your academic, professional and personal development and you will be fully supported to develop your own path, driven by clear goals and ambitions that are truly right for you. With the help of your Aspire Lecturer and peer group support, you will develop goal setting and action planning strategies and approaches to enhance your understanding of your strengths and areas for your development.
Over the course of the Aspire modules, you will build an electronic portfolio of your work which demonstrates your capabilities, achievements within and in parallel to your degree, and your professional identity and competencies; preparing you for your future.
The principal aim of Aspire is to nurture your talent and help you succeed and it does so by enabling you to identify your strengths, apply and enhance your skills, and provide an environment where you can thrive, and develop the confidence and competence to succeed in UWS and beyond. It is concerned with your personal learning journey and is fully supportive and inclusive by design.
Aspire is about:

This Aspire: Shaping Your Future module will help ensure that you are on a supported path to success and on achieving your full potential.

The integrated Aspire philosophy and aims will continue to support your academic, personal and professional development and success through providing:
In Years Three and Four, the integrated Aspire ethos supports the synthesis of your academic learning and articulation of graduate attributes, drawing together aspects from your whole student journey.
